In this edition of De[aler] Briefing we caught up with Ontario heavy hitters, Blue Tile Lounge.

Blue Tile Lounge, where are you located for all those that don’t know?

Main Street in Newmarket and College Street Downtown Toronto.

How long has your store in Newmarket been around for?

Just over 7 years now.

So you just opened up a new store in downtown Toronto to make your second location. How long have you been preparing for the opening?

Once the space popped up it was fast. The space needed a lot of work for the size, so we didn’t sleep much and ripped it a part, built it back up, in about a month. But there’s always much more behind the scene preparations that aren’t as visible. Those take awhile.

The Blue Tile crew seems to be getting bigger and better. What was it like to see Morgan Smith, who is a Blue Tile Lounge skater, win Battle At The Berrics IV?

So nuts, right? He worked his ass off, so we were all super proud. It was one of those things that we used to say around the shop for years; “if Morgan ever gets in, he’d kill it”. But then when you see him actually making his way through, it’s unreal.

Who else makes up the rest of the Blue Tile team?

Jay Brown, Adam McLaughlin, Pat O’Rourke, Terence Goddard, Sam Mulholland, Corey Sheppard and a bunch of friends and famile (aka. The Blue Tile Lodge).

Any events coming up that you want to tell the people about?

We’re always filming and trying to throw events but mostly we’re just going to be working on our next BTL video, which is overdue.

What’s playing on the speakers in the shops?

Rosetta stone, the Ebonics version.

Have any interesting shoplifting stories?

Ha-ha – Actually we’ve been pretty lucky. It only happened once that was blatant. After about 40 minutes of the guys berating him, I think it sunk in on how lame he was.

Any last words of wisdom?

Wisdom? I wish.
